I was reading this article on etsy, but I couldn’t help looking into MaryKateMcDevitt’s shop before I finish reading the article… these mini goals chalkboards are super awesome! I love the hand lettering, the design of the chalkboards and the concept so much! I need one, I can’t decide which one yet, but I thought it was such a cute way to motivate yourself with mini goals everyday. They are “mini” goals so it’s not overwhelming, which makes easier to accomplish :)

The Literary City

I have been missing San Francisco a lot lately (it’s been almost a year since my last visit… that is too long :( ) and when I saw this poster (?) over at we love typography, I knew that it was San Francisco even from a tiny thumbnail image and as soon as I clicked to see the larger view, I was in love. Entitled “The Literary City,” the whole city is covered with handwritten quotes about San Francisco from all sort of literature. And where each quote is placed makes perfect sense geographically, too!!

But I could find out where this is from or anything… I hope it is available for sale…?

If anyone has any information about this, please let me know. The link that they gave at we love typography was this link. I tried to search from it, but no luck… Thank you in advance!

*UPDATE: Thanks to Angela, here is the original article and the artist’s website — it’s not for sale, though! bummer…

I have been a fan of Sarah Gardner‘s hand-lettering work, it’s so great. Her Flickr photostream is filled with great hand-lettering work, it is so inspiring to browse through them all and they really make me want to try some hand-lettering!

Jana sent me a link to a website that she thought I might like � Letman.

and I really enjoy looking through all the projects, lettering, designs, creativity…. amazing stuff! I highly recommend checking this website for all sorts of ideas and letters!

One of the projects, ABC was probably the cutest and coolest and so I wanted to share it here � I love how 4-year-old is having fun drawing letters! Priceless.

We Heart Bacon

I had to take a picture when I saw this � “We Heart Bacon” sign!!

Nice hand-lettering and it made me smile so much! Who doesn’t love bacon?! right?

and the other side of the sign was….

Ah, that’s why. This side is nicely done, too, I like it. The little beer glass is cute.

December 30th morning inspirations � 2008 is ending really soon!!! I am working at the office this week, which is kind of weird… I never worked between after Christmas and the New Years so… oh well.

Typographic Art at Cooper Union

For the last 10 times when I was at the Cooper Union for the letterpress class, I was very fascinated by this typographic art by the entrance in the foundation building. It is stunning! I guess it was a gift to Peter Cooper’s 80th birthday from the class of 1871 (!!) – wow. When you take a close look, it’s even more wonderful because there are so many great use of typography, I’m sure it’s all done by hands, I can stare at this all day.

Hand-Lettering in SF

I watch for hand-lettering things wherever I go or whatever I see, and sure, I found some in San Francisco while I was walking around town.

This chalk board menu I saw at a cafe is with not only great hand-lettering, but also great illustrations:

A sign by bike parking lot at Berkeley station � I like that phrase:

Polk A Dot Stationers on Polk Street � these are actually made by cut out paper! Very nice.

Their window had great vintage books that had nice typefaces, too. I never been inside this store and it was too early it wasn’t open… next time!

Hand Job: A Catalog of Type

You might already own this book, have seen it, have heard of it… so you know that it is filled with thousands of hand-lettering (from 55 typographers and graphic designers!) and it is such an inspiring book. Makes me want to get into hand-lettering more!
