New: Love Themed Letterpress Alphabet Greeting Cards

Yesterday was my first day of printing in 2010! I must admit… I had missed it so much! So happy that I get to print again :)

Keep that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (can you believe it?) in mind, I printed 4 more letterpress Alphabet Greeting cards — all LOVE themed! I really enjoyed printing them and here are some behind the scene photos…

I decided to print all in red, one of my favorite colors and the color of love…
Setting wood type blocks and the polymer plates 2 at a time:

Checking impressions and adjusting placements:

Put red ink and…

print away.

2nd set — setting wood type blocks and the plates in the same position from the 1st set, but since the letters are in different width, adjusting a little here…

and print them away.

2nd color — I hand-mixed nice chocolate brown :)

Adjusting the placements… very important…

looking good :)

printing printing printing!

and here are the final products:

V is for Valentine:

L is for LOVE:

(I wanna frame this one — all the alphabet card is frame-able in US standard 5×7 frame — FYI)

X is for XOXO:

Lots of nice wood type texture on letter X.

I is for I Heart You:

I hope you like them! :)

I took so many pictures while I was printing each card as usual and here are some glimpse of it. It took a while, but I printed them with all my love, I hope these bring everyone a nice and warm holiday season…

A, C and G

Good morning :) Hope you all had a nice weekend and are ready for a new week! It’s going to be September… so fast… I didn’t like the heat and bugs bites (oh, I hated them!!!), but when I think about the summer is ending, I miss it already…

Anyways. I printed 3 more alphabet greeting cards and they are available now at my shop :) Here are some behind-the-scene photos as usual!

Mixing ink… I always think about if the word has a color, what color would it be before printing. Mixing pretty sky blue for…

ac1

C / Congratulations! I think sky blue is nice, fresh, happy and very celebratory for any occasion. Printing wood type “C” and the plate at the same time.

ac2

1st color printed.

ac3

Moving on to next… mixing pretty green…

ac4

for G / Get Well — this wood type “G” was a special one, has lots of textures! Hoping this lively green makes your loved ones feel better…

ac5

1st color done.

ac6

and moving on to the 3rd one… mixing nice orange…

ac7

for A / Anniversary :) I thought of red at first for the love related anniversaries, but rethought and decided to go with orange — can be sent for a shop anniversary, a blog anniversary, a work anniversary… any kind of anniversaries!

Setting wood type and the polymer plate, ready to print.

ac8

I like the orange, the 1st color printed.

ac9

2nd day — the brown color day!

Setting up the polymer plates. The border and “is for”.

ac11

Adjustments, adjustments, adjustments…

ac10

ac13

ac14

until it’s in exact spot! :) Print away…

ac12

and here are the finished products :)

C is for Congratulations!:

G is for Get Well:

getwell1

You can see the wood type “G” texture more here.

getwell4

A is for Anniversary:

This letter “A” has a very nice texture, too!

H is for Hello!

A new addition to my alphabet greeting cards — H is for Hello!

I am printing more, hope to have A to Z as Stephanie has asked… :)

I already printed wood type H and Hello! in yellow a while ago, I just had to print the second color brown… setting the plates on the base:

hisforhello1

Adjustment to do. and yes, to get to the perfect position, there would be mess-ups.

hisforhello2

They never get to go anywhere so I am sharing them here… :) Sometimes it creates an awesome art!

hisforhello3

and here is the final product. Comes with matching 100% cotton envelope.

Available here!

Hello Tuesday… please be nice to me…

Alphabet Greeting Cards

Good morning! Hope you all had a great weekend. Starting today, I am participating Poppytalk Handmade for “Paper Pops,” a paper goods and affordable art market! When Jan and Earl contacted me and invited me, I was super excited and of course said yes without no hesitation. Please visit Poppytalk Handmade for more great artists and products!

I wanted to start a week by sharing my printing process for my new alphabet greeting cards. I had this idea for a long time, I’m so happy it’s finally printed and available for everyone! More alphabet cards will follow… but here are the first 4. I printed them in a few different sessions, I couldn’t do this in 1 day… (well, maybe…?)

I wanted to incorporate wood type and polymer plate (design from computer) so all the big letters for the cards are printed with vintage wood type blocks and the rest was designed in computer.

Letter T:

alphabetcard1

This T has lot of texture.

alphabetcard2

Letter M:

alphabetcard3

Letter B:

alphabetcard4

and “Birthday!” underneath.

alphabetcard6

and then, I realized that I could print wood type and polymer plate at the same time like this. See, I’m always learning. It worked out great!

alphabetcard5

After printing all the letters, apply the 2nd color – the border and the “is for” in the middle. I always design everything in Illustrator first, print it out, use it as a guide.

alphabetcard7

On Vandercook press:

alphabetcard8

Lots of adjusting to do, but once that’s done, just print, print, print…..

alphabetcard9

alphabetcard10

and here are the final product. I am so happy with the result!

B is for Birthday!

birthday1

T is for Thank You.

thankyou1

F is for Father (Reminder: Father’s day is June 21st this year.)

father1

and M is for Mother (Hope you had a nice Mother’s Day!) This card will be so cute for baby shower, mother-to-be, or anything mother related things!

Charley Harper Alphabet Cards

My friend Susan from Brooklyn Nest (great design blog for kids!) gave me these Charley Harper alphabet cards for my birthday – look how cute they are! I love Charley Harper’s work very much and I love letters so this is perfect. These are not just alphabet cards, but also a floor puzzles (2 patterns!) when you flip it on the back so it’s double the fun!

I’ve gathered my alphabet card inspirations before and I can take lots of inspiration from these for sure.

Love the colors and of course his illustrations.

Thank you, Susan!

Alphabet Cards

I am getting some inspirations from alphabet cards for my projects I’m working on and so I started looking around what’s out there and here are some images I can definitely take something out of.

These are not exactly alphabet cards, but I love the colors and style.

These are great vintage cards. Simple, cute, and fun. (from nancy cook)

These are collage work – very cool. (from story of my life 2007)

These are very clean and elegant. (from lucky olive)

I love this one! Using photos for alphabet cards would be very cool. (from Coyote Crossing)
