Limited Edition LOVE Print

With Valentine’s Day coming right soon, the love is definitely in the air everywhere! and I LOVE it :)

I printed this very limited edition of LOVE print, which will be featured in an upcoming book… (more about that later)

I love overlapping effects that letterpress can do so I wanted to try that — first, setting up letter O and E:

Adjusting the placement… with consideration about the letter L and V later…

and print the letter O and E.

Now, setting the letter L and V to overlap the letter O and E:

Test print without the ink + adjusting the placement…

Let’s see…

aww I love the shapes and colors that they make each other!

Still adjusting the spacing until I am happy…

Here is the final product! Limited to only 25 prints!

I hope you like it :) xo Hijiri

Live What You Love Special Edition 2011

There are few new prints in my new shop… I’ll be introducing them one by one this week :)

First up is Live What You Love special edition 2011.

Wood type setting on Vandercook Press without the letter O:

I decided to go with the really light pale pink this time, very sweet combination of colors, I think. The lino heart on the press:

Adjusting the placement — love this happy accident effect!

Placement set, printing away…

and here is the final product, available here.

I hope you like it! xo Hijiri

Golden Rule Letterpress Poster

Golden Rule Letterpress Poster by Studio On Fire caught my eye more than ever (first found via swissmiss). That’s exactly what my parents told us to do growing up! And it’s such a lovely collaboration of a father and son; All elements are hand drawn by Koen (age 6) with a Sharpie marker at the dining room table, then arranged digitally in our studio. The type is the “Golden Rule” as penned in the honest hand of a child. How awesome and sweet is that?! And it is beautifully letterpressed, that completes it!

It’s great for kids’ room, but I want one for myself, too!

Letterpress Things

Today, I’ll share more pictures from my visit to Letterpress Things in Chicopee, MA. Come this way!

The entrance…

After going up the stairs… it’s a letterpress treasure land! We met the owner, John Barrett, he says he bought 17 letterpress shops this year alone and he never throws out anything. It is literally filled with “Printing Junque” I wasn’t kidding yesterday :)

Wood furniture cabinets. Never seen this many all together before…

Lots of metal types…

and borders and ornaments…

Stars!

I love all the art work that was on the wall in this place. This one is great, too!

It’s like a museum of old printing blocks…

More types in package.

John took us to the printing room. So many cute table top presses, do you see the really tiny one here?

and presses for sale — tabletop presses:

and floor models:

It only opens few times a month or less, so if you ever plan to go there, which I really recommend to go if you are looking for printing supplies, please check the open dates first. John also supports the museum of printing in MA, I would love to go check it out someday soon…

Happy Letterpress Printing!
