I didn’t know where to start since I was all over the world for the last 3-4 weeks or so… but I’ll start with the timely things so you can still check it out!

I visited Levi’s Workshops while I was in San Francisco — a community print shop! During July and August, they will be teaching classes on classic letterpress machinery, screenprinting designs, setting type etc. How awesome is this?! I was so excited to see the whole place really active and everyone just creating and printing.

Vandercook press in action.

“Keep Calm and Press On” — I would love to have this!

A couple table-top presses.

Stamps! There were so many cool ones, I played around a bit, too ;)

You can also make photocopies and make art here. Love the wall full of work.

and of course, the screen printing area. It was pretty busy looking so I couldn’t take pictures of the machine, but it was pretty big.

Walls with printed work. Love this “I’m Just Sayin’” series, so fun :)

and more posters on the wall.

If you are in San Francisco and if you haven’t already, please go check it out, just feeling the creative vibe is worth the visit!

Last Sunday, I visited MoMA and found lots of inspirations — will have couple more posts later, but here, I wanted to share some typographic inspirations from the walls. Love looking at museum walls besides the exhibition (of course) because it always has cool design and typography.

Bruce Nauman: Days (very interesting exhibition – “sound sculpture”)

A huge wall full of days. Monday through Sunday. Not in exact order. Caught my eye. (and makes sense for the exhibition, too)

Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront (also an interesting exhibition)

I liked the project description wall. Nicely designed.

and this was on the 2nd floor wall — I’m not sure if this is a work in progress or if this is it… I didn’t see any project caption or anything, but either way, it caught my eye.

and the theme is “What home means to me” — and here is my pinboard…

I realized since I moved to NYC and started my own freelance work, home became not only sleep, relax, cook and eat, but also work and create. Be inspired and imaginative. Be creative and innovative.

Also, as I have lots of collection of things, which make me happy, think and remember, home means where I keep all my favorite things, display them in my own way and enjoy.

This project Folded :: The Origami Collection with Jack + Jenn and Jody from Brin & Nohl has been a bit put aside because of my move… but now we are all ready to finish creating and I just wanted to share my inspiration #2 before I share what I’ve been working and my final product.

From the first inspirational images we all gathered (see Jack + Jenn and Brin & Nohl inspirational images, too), I thought about creating a pop up card — I never seen a letterpressed pop up card and I thought it’d be fun to make and it’d be nice to see in 3D format. I also love the surprise / when the paper comes to life moment when you open the card, too…

so I went over to upon a fold (one of my favorite paper shops!) to get some more inspirations around the pop up cards….

Bloom Card:

This is so very cute! I love that it’s so small first and it opens like the flower’s blooming and the flower itself is a card with a message.

This is so awesome, I would hang it in my room forever!

Retro Balloon Card:

These are a bit more straightforward and simple (not simple to make, but it feels simple), but how pretty are they?

Popcard — Butterflies:

Popcard — Birdcage:

These are not pop up cards, but I love the idea of making pretty flowers out of re-used envelopes, books, lottery tickets, diaries, buttons and more… I do have lots of misprinted letterpress prints that I’ve been wanted to turn into something pretty rather than just throwing them away…

Handmade Flowers:

These come with double-sided tape on the back so you can attach to gifts… so cute.

(all the images are from upon a fold)

So fun!

If you participated/followed the 1st blogger mash up “blog it forward,” you would know how fun and inspiring that was (see my post here!), and this time it’s with pinterest — a visual bookmarking site, where you can save images you find while browsing the web and organize them into collections. I’m one of the lucky ones who get to try this from their early stages and I must admit that it is awesome!! See my pinboards here for example and I would suggest signing up to “pin it forward” right now!!! Spaces are very limited!!!

I hope that you do :)

Tim Burton Exhibition is ending today at the MoMA (hurry if you are in NY and haven’t seen this exhibition!), I was so happy to be able to catch it last Friday. I think it must have been the most popular museum exhibition ever just from what I have seen. Every time I went over there, it was packed with people, the tickets were always sold out, and the last Friday was no exception, it was actually the most packed museum exhibition I’ve ever been to. (I became a member finally! I don’t know what I was waiting for…) but it was all worth it. The man is clearly so freaking talented! His vision is oh, so unique and so amazing, no one can see/create his world the way he sees/creates. I enjoyed it so much. Just like I enjoy all his movies. The exhibition covered lots of stuff from hand-written notes of Tim Burton to the movie props, the paintings/drawings to the actions figures… and much more!

Pictures are from Tim Burton Chronology wall before you go into the exhibition. (It was strictly no photography allowed inside.)

*****************

and this is an interesting exhibition that is happening at the MoMA right now, called “The Artist is Present” by Marina Abramović. (Until May 31.)

“the exhibition includes the first live re-performances of Abramović’s works by other people ever to be undertaken in a museum setting. In addition, a new, original work performed by Abramović will mark the longest duration of time that she has performed a single solo piece. All performances, one of which involves viewer participation, will take place throughout the entire duration of the exhibition, starting before the Museum opens each day and continuing until after it closes, to allow visitors to experience the timelessness of the works.” — How intriguing!

and here they are. Sitting in the middle of the exhibition room and just staring at each other. The lady in red is Maria. Was really interesting.

Hope you had a nice weekend! :)
