Brooklyn Museum (Target First Saturday)

I have been working non-stop for 2 weeks… I worked all last weekend and all this weekend + all weekdays and all week nights. I guess this is “freelancing” life. It’s going to be a busy week… no, busy month!

Anyway. On Saturday night, after working all day, Brooklyn Museum was having a first Saturday of the month event by Target and it was also an opening day for Takashi Murakami exhibit and so we stopped by – oh, my god, it was PACKED!

It is a beautiful building (entrance area):

When you walk in, you see this huge ©MURAKAMI art:

Trying to look for an elevator to go to the exhibition and we were stuck with people trying to do the same thing for a while:

On my right was a door to the Utagawa exhibition (next time!)

Took us a while, but we finally made it to the 5th floor, be in a line to get in… and then, we heard the museum guy said “Hold the tickets in your hand” – what?! We didn’t have tickets! Just the MURAKAMI exhibition wasn’t free! It didn’t say anything, either! (Well. We saw people in line and they were buying some kind of tickets…but it wasn’t clear, though…) So we are going to have to come back soon. ha.

But! We got to see the other floors and wow, I loved it there so much! I highly recommend it.

Out of many things I saw, this Visible Storage / Study Center was so cool:

Sculptures and paintings are stored like this, too.

I also liked Ghada Amer: Lave Has No End exhibition. Most of her work was embroidered and the threads were the paint. I never seen anything like it.

Finally, we listened to DJ Muro play – He was freatured tonight’s event. When I was in Tokyo back in ’95, he was big in Japanese underground hip hop scene and there he is in NYC 13 years later, playing at such an awesome event!

I saw lots of hip and cool Brooklynese there, too, which is always inspiring. The vibe was really cool, too. I am so glad we went!

St. Patty’s Day

Randy is an Irish so we try to do something Irish on St. Patty’s Day and so we went to this Irish pub in Park Slope last night (with Maia in a bag,) hoping that they also serve some food… and they did! for free! Corn beef, cabbage, and Guinness. We were so happy. It was a fun neighborhood pub, too. Park Slope is great.

Nnicks vs. Trail Blazers at Madison Sq. Garden

On Saturday, I went to my first basketball game – New York Knicks vs. Portland Trail Blazers at Madison Square Garden. It’s always cool to do something for the first time and I never been to Madison Sq. Garden so it was a double first time experience… and I had so much fun! It was getting more and more exciting towards the end (I guess that’s how basketball game is like) and Knicks brought it to tie in the last 1 second and so the game went to over time! I was screaming with everyone, doing the wave (!) and just enjoying the game with so much energy – the vibe was so young and fresh! There were more teenagers and kids than any other games I’ve been to and they just have this pure energy. Knicks lost, not that I care, but I had a great time.

Randy didn’t hate Knicks. Like he hates Yankees. It was his first basketball game since 1986!

One Step Beyond feat. DJ Jazzy Jeff

This was one of the coolest events I’ve ever been to. The American Museum of Natural History is having a monthly event called “One Step Beyond” and this month, it was featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff – I’ve been wanted to see him play for a long time and ohhh my god, he was SICK! I wish someone recorded his whole set… it was so awesome! The place was packed (was a sold out show), the vibe was great, we were surrounded by stars, space, and big ban and even though we couldn’t get to drink anything (you had to be in a line to get drink tickets and then be in a line for the bar and it was just way too many people) we had such a great time! We tried to leave a little earlier to avoid crowds at the end a few times, but the music drove us back to the floor every time we did! It was just impossible to leave.

Also, the ticket included a free museum entry so we’re going back there soon.
