Charlie Parker Jazz Festival

Last weekend was the 15th annual Charlie Parker Jazz Festival and I got to go to Sunday one at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. Charlie Parker is one of my favorite jazz musicians so I really wanted to go to honor his music – so did everyone in the park!

There was this artist in the park – he draws jazz! Pretty cool.

Bryant Park Summer Film Festival

Yesterday was the last night of Bryant Park Summer Film Festival for this summer and it was Superman (1978)!

There were soo many people as I expected and it was such a nice night, too.

The screen – the sound was good, actually:

The opening credits – ohh I love it:

It was such fun experience – every time Kent Clark comes up or something happens, the audience went nuts and it was the best part!

I guess I just missed the Olympic Opening Ceremony… I woke up relatively early (well, Maia wakes me up early), though.

This looks spectacular! I have to catch it on TV today for sure.

Anyway, besides the Olympic starting, my Friday morning inspiration comes from these unique business cards:

These are so great! You can see more here, here and here.

Fennesz / Sakamoto

The River to River Festival is going on in NYC right now and they have cool free events almost everyday. Last week, we went to see Christian Fennesz and Ryuichi Sakamoto at the World Financial Center.

The stage – the World Financial Center was a great building, you can see the water right outside, too:

Palm trees! I haven’t seen one since I left San Francisco!

There they were – they did an album together called “Cendre” and they were performing from the album for the first time in US:

He then started playing the piano – wow it was beautiful.

He was also playing the strings inside the piano:

Their music was very experimental, ambient, soothing, and it was great to see them play live for sure.
