Merry Christmas and Mistletoe xxx

Hello! It is Christmas eve here today. I am visiting my family in low here in Massachusetts — our traditions every year :) Just wanted to take time and wish you and yours a Merry Christmas!!! Hope you are having a peaceful time with your loved ones…

A couple of weeks ago, Randy brought home my first real mistletoe! (I knew what it was, never had one for myself or for the home!) And did you know why you kiss under the mistletoe (I didn’t know why…)? The box that my mistletoe came in had a little cute story behind it so I thought it’d be a perfect thing to share on a Christmas eve…

“Mistletoe Lore:

Mistletoe has been the subject of many legends and traditions for hundreds of years. Ancient Druids considered mistletoe sacred because it grew without roots in the ground and assumed that it must have been planted by the gods. Mistletoe was thought to ban evil spirits and bring good luck and great blessings. When warriors met beneath mistletoe, they had to lay down their weapons and call a truce. From this, it became a sign of peace and good will. But why do we kiss people under the mistletoe?

It all started with a goddess called Frigga. Her son, Balder, was shot with an arrow made of mistletoe. Frigga’s friends succeeded in conjuring up powers to save the boy. Balder lived anew and Frigga ordered that the mistletoe should never again be used to harm. Instead, she made it a symbol of love by kissing anyone who passed under it.”

Don’t forget to xxxxxx

:) :) :)

Merry Christmas!!!

Winter Vacation Sale

Thank you all so much for thinking of my work this holiday season, I hope you and your loved ones enjoy them so much.

My shop is now officially on vacation mode until I come back next year — but instead of totally closing it, I am keeping it open and having a winter vacation sale! Everything is 10-20% off…. but the catch is that you have to wait until I come back on January 21st (+few days for shipping) to get your order… I hope you are not in hurry… :)

(while supplies last)

I have a little bit more work to finish and then, off to Boston for Christmas! Safe travels if you are going somewhere this week! I will be posting my Christmas wishes to all of you tomorrow…. :) xo Hijiri

Brooklyn Lyceum Holiday Craft Market

I went to Brooklyn Lyceum Holiday Craft Market last Sunday to support local handmade artists. (I went there last year, too.) It feels so great to be a supporter — I understand how much time, effort and love goes into one product so much and I’d love to support them as much as I can! (as I have been supported by many people… I am truly grateful. Thank you always so much!)

I saw some familiar products, new products… bought few things for my loved ones and… myself. :)

There were a lot more holiday craft shows in NYC, but I have been just way too swamped to go all of them, which I am pretty disappointed about… (booo) I hope everyone (both craft shop owners and shoppers) had a great time this holiday season wherever you are!

Shop local! Shop handmade! :)

Subway Art: 42nd St. (Orange Line)

These are taken at 42nd St. station (B, D, F, Q — Orange line). I finally took some pictures. I love the color and the tiling work — they are so beautiful. I would love to make some prints or patterns inspired by these images…

Good morning! Hope you all had a great weekend… can you believe Christmas is this Friday?! (I can’t!!) I hope you are almost ready for the holidays… :)

Over the weekend, it SNOWED here. so. much. I have to admit, it was beautiful. (now, not so much…)

I was out all day holiday shopping on Saturday (made it hard to shop in the snow) and when I came back to Park Slope, everything was covered in snow and it totally turned into a silver/white world!

Radio City Music Hall

Last week, I went to Radio City Music Hall to see Christmas Spectacular (I have worked on the website!) — it was fun :) The Music Hall was stunning!! I enjoyed the building so much.

The ceiling. I’d only seen it in pictures before, but it really was gorgeous! I took some photos and I was surprised that it looked exactly like the ones I’d seen!

When you walk in, there was this gorgeous chandelier-like Christmas tree… and the wall paining… I could spend hours here.

radiocity2

More ceiling / curve stairs shot… so beautiful…

radiocity3

The show. It definitely has its own history. It’s been going on for 75 years!

radiocity4

The lovely Rockettes :)

radiocity5

and we are going to see the Nutcracker tonight :) (I wanted to do more holiday shows this year, I don’t think I did that much last year so… yay)

Happy Friday, everyone!

Red is a bit darker and richer this time and light grey is really warm this time. I printed green first time in a long time (since the first edition)!
