I mentioned that I’m participating this project with Samantha Hann at Maquette in the beginning of the year and it is finally live! It was a “Love” book project — Samantha asked 25 artisits and writers to submit a piece inspired by their idea of love and I was somehow included (THANK YOU SO MUCH!!) and she just published them as a book on blurb!!

Here is an amazing list of contributers:

Hannah Stouffer, Lilly Piri, Aaron Hogg, Lisa Butterworth, Dan Funderburgh, Samantha Hahn, Erin Loechner, Jesse Breytenbach, Kate Miss, Jessica Gonacha, Kelly Lynn Jones, Yasmine Surovec, Shira Sela, Matthew and Sandy Lynn Davis (Treatzone), Maditi, Amy Sahba, Ez Pudewa, Hijiri Shepherd (me!), Marisa Haedike, Lisa Congdon, Holly Becker, Kate Neckel, Katie Sokoler & Kate Bingaman Burt

The cover (by Samantha – picture is taken by her, too)

Thumbnails of some of the work inside:

and….. my work!

My copy is on its way right now, I can’t wait to see the real book! You can order yours here, just in time for Valentine’s Day, it’d make an amazing gift!

“I Blank You” Goes To…

Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my blog birthday post! It was a small giveaway so I decided to do “Amida-kuji” — a Japanese ladder lottery. Growing up in Japan, we always played this lottery game and thought it’d be fun to share it here, too!

So this is how you play.

There were 8 contestants so draw 8 lines on a piece of paper.

Put the contestants’ names down under each line — I put down the names from the first one who commented to the last one. (yes, vertical here… Japanese way!)

and fold the paper a few times so you can’t see the names any more.

Now, you draw some “random” horizontal lines to connect pairs of adjacent vertical lines. Very randomly. You don’t think about anything, just draw lines as many as you want for as long as you’d like. Just make sure no two of the horizontal lines would touch each other.

I’m done with my rondom lines now.

Since the anniversary was on January 7th, I picked the 7th line. You can pick any line, randomly.

and you just follow the line towards the bottom of the paper, when you have the horizontal line, you make turns.

and….. the winner is…..

Kate from Look Book!!! Congratulations, Kate!!! You will be receiving the “I Blank You” card very soon!!

Thank you so much, everyone, I really appreciate all your support and nice comments!

Hope you all had a nice weekend.

Wood Type Poster Project

Rhian in London and I have been talking about this project since December last year and we finally agreed on this and I got to print with wood types — came out so nicely that I wanted to share it with you here, too.

My cheat sheet. Because all the letters are mirrored, it gets confusing when you are typesetting them so I printed this and brought it to the studio. It worked! No misspelling or upside down words.

The first 6 lines there wasn’t enough “W”s so I had to break the line.

On the Vandercook Press:

The last 4 lines — I had to set it from the end of the first 6 lines.

and end result…. here!

I’m so happy with this! Rhian seems to be very happy as well!

It also comes with an idea card! Great details!

They also carry more great stationaries, notebooks, cards, clips etc. click here to look around more.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize it’s already Friday! Happy Friday, everyone!!
