Take Your Time: Olafur Eliasson at MoMA

I’d been wanted to go see this exhibition by Olafur Eliasson entitled “Take Your Time” at MoMa and P.S.1 and I finally did go see it at MoMa. (I couldn’t go to P.S. 1 and it just ended today…)

It was so interesting – the illusion and the lights and everything in between. You think you would be blind after seeing some of the work because it is just so intense (and cool!) to your eyes, but I was surprised that my eyes were just fine right away.

You can see most of the work from its website, but this exhibition was more like “experience” so you have to be there to really “see” and “feel” the work. It was an awesome exhibition!

Yellow room – everything was yellow, everything was monochrome.

takeyourtime2.jpg

There was a big line…

takeyourtime8.jpg

To see this walls of mirrors installation and you see infinity reflection:

takeyourtime9.jpg

This room was foggy and you see lights creating a cube – was so beautiful:

takeyourtime3.jpg

takeyourtime5.jpg

takeyourtime6.jpg

This wall was creating a reflective, kaleidoscopic effect:

I just couldn’t take pictures of every installations, some were just hard to capture, but I enjoyed it very much!

Okinawa 2

In Okinawa, we rented a private house called “Gushichin” – we drove north for 1.5 to 2 hours from Naha city.

You can see a beach from the property:

The backyard – we wanted to BBQ, but the weather didn’t let us…

Papaya tree in the backyard – We cooked it later and it was good:

We took a walk to the beach…

Ryukyu Glass

You can find Ryukyu Glass everywhere in Okinawa – they are absolutely beautiful hand-blown glasses. There are a lot of places that offer hand-blown experience and you can make your own glass art, and this place we stopped by had one, too, but it was closed when we got there… so just shopped around the store. So pretty!

There are lots of glass creatures – these are the glass seasirs:

They had a lot of different seasirs, too:

These heart ones are so lovely:

Okinawa Ichiba

There is a meat and seafood market area (Ichiba) in the arcade from Kokusai Dori in Okinawa and it is just fun looking around everything. You can actually buy seafood and they’ll make sashimi or they’ll cook it and you can eat it right away in upstairs. We tried Ise Ebi and all sorts of fishes (including the blue one!) as sashimi!

They are alive:

How pretty:

OK, Okinawa people eat so much pork and there was a whole meat market here, too, but after seeing this… we weren’t sure if we wanted to go that way:

They love pork.

Okinawa

I kept mentioning about it, but I am finally ready to share my trip and here it goes – Okinawa was such a special place! Yes, it is in Japan, but it’s not Japan. It’s so different, they have their own culture, own local food and drink, and their own language. I have never been such places like Okinawa. So special I loved it there so much!!

Naha Airport – “Menso-re Okinawa” (Welcome to Okinawa)

There is a big aquarium tank at the airport:

The place we stayed for the first night “Usumiji”:

Kokusai Dori (main street) – lots of stores in this street including tourist stuff, too, of course.

Seasir – they are everywhere in Okinawa, they protect you from bad.

Okinawa Habu-shu!! (Snake liquor)

okinawa9.jpg

There are cute stuff, too:

One of few arcades on Kokusai Dori – it’s awesome. They kept the old Japan/Okinawa here:

Sata-andagi – so good!:

Pink treats! (Machikaji):

Fresh produce on the street:

To be continued… (it gets better!)

Hoefler & Frere-Jones

I get inspired by fonts a lot and tonight was no exception. Just wanted to post about Hoefler & Frere-Jones (H&FJ) at typography.com because their site is really great to look at – you can see and learn about fonts, find the fonts, buy the fonts… I especially like the features they have.

“Gotham” page, for example, they have the font’s overview with designs by using the fonts:

h_fj1.jpg

h_fj1_2.jpg

h_fj1_e.jpg

(I like the color usage, too)

You can learn about the history (if the font has any):

h_fj2.jpg

and you can “test drive” it:

h_fj3.jpg

and they have a blog about fonts, too!

Linko’s House

One of my best friends, Linko has designed and built a new loft home with her fiancι by rearranging her parents’ building and they made it so cool that I had to post some photos here. Made me want to own a house! Well, before that, I have to finish up our apartment here… inspired me to finish up for sure!
